Hoodoo, rootwork, brujeria, folk magic are all practical ways to access the Energy of the Universe and manipulate it to improve our lives. These practices are not dependent on a group or organization, and are not tied to a religion. The practical applications aid in manifesting success in our lives. Be it money, work, health, or love, you are in charge of telling the Universe what you want. Candles, herbs, stones, colors, and rituals help to direct your intentions and bend the energies around you to achieve your goals.
Love of the Earth and everything on it, and understanding the connection between all things is inherently significant in hoodoo. The Moon and its phases direct what we do and when for optimal results. The natural powers of certain herbs, plants, and roots are combined with your own power to manipulate change. Knowing that you are a part of the infinite energy and learning how to raise your vibration to access the Divine gives you the power to manifest your desires.
Hoodoo rootwork is not a religion, but a magical practice. It can be combined with religion; the use of psalms, saints, Gods and Goddesses is totally at the whim of the practitioner. Rootwork is neither good nor evil. The main objective is to initiate change to improve the life of the practitioner. There is just as much space in the practice to heal as there is to punish someone who has done you harm. While there are no Rules of Three or admonishments to do no harm, most rootworkers will always apply protections to themselves and they do not hex without considering all the ramifications and outcomes. For every action we do, there is a reaction. It is our responsibility to have situational awareness of all possible implications.
